McGriff-blues on a Latvian made Hammond BC!
Recorded in Liepaja Lutheran church, Aug 5th 2026.
I had the priviledge of trying a Hammond organ, manufactured by the VEF factory in Latvia in the late 30s, in the brief time between the world wars when Latvia was independent. This is one a very few (if any) organ that survived WWII and the subsequent Soviet occupation. It now sits in Liepaja Lutheran church and has been restored. The original speaker was lost so instead there’s a leslie 122 connected.
I got to try it for about an hour and I felt that the greasy sound of the organ demanded a greasy blues, so here’s “Boston Bust Out” by Jimmy McGriff. Enjoy!
