This year marks the 10th anniversary of my first visit to Iceland. I have always felt a strong connection to the island and its people. Ohada church and its Hammond organ always have had a central part in that, but last time I was here, in September of last year, it got spiritual on a whole new level. I was on my way to the church for my solo concert, walking up the hill on Háteigsvegur. It started raining in a typical Icelandic fashion, where the sunshine and raindrops hit you at the same time. And then a rainbow appeared in the sky, ending exactly in Ohada church where I was headed. It was such a powerful experience. I felt overwhelmed and almost moved into tears, with such a strong sense of belonging. It inspired me to do a concert program with the title “Where the rainbow ends”, or in Icelandic “Þar sem regnboginn endar”. So on Sunday April 19th, at 4pm there will be the world premiere of this program!
It is also becoming a tradition that I do some or all presentations in the local language. When Trinity was in Germany I did it all in German. When I was in Latvia last month, I did one presentation in Latvian. And so I’m planning to do this whole concert in Icelandic! Feels like a challenge for sure, but if you know me at all you know I’m always up for a challenge.
There will be some other concerts as well. My trip will start by doing a jazz concert at jazzclub Múlinn at Harpa concert hall with my quartet with Siggi Flosason.
So looking forward to coming back and I hope to see all my friends and many others as well!
