I’ve been to Iceland a number of times now and for each time I just grow more fond of this country, its people, nature and culture. It started in 2016 with a tour with Andreas Hellkvist Trio after the release of Finally! After that there have been a number of trips, but since the pandemic, I didn’t go for a number of years. Until now. In May of 2025 I went there for a week to reconnect with friends and associates and start to make up for all that was lost during covid. And I have to say I got a flying start.
During the week I did three different concerts, and a workshop at a school. The concerts were quite different in style. It started out with a quartet concert at jazz club Mulinn at the beautiful concert house of Harpa. There I played together with Siggi Flosason on sax, Andres Thor on guitar and Einar Schving on drums. The songs were mine and Siggi’s. The second concert was a solo concert at a church organ in Hjallakirkja, Kopavogur, A challenge, to say the least, as I’m not used to playing the church organ. But also a lot of fun! And the last concert was something I had been looking forward to for a long time. In 2020 I was supposed to do a concert with Icelandic artist Eythor Ingi, but it got cancelled due to covid. So for this trip I asked him if he wanted to do a concert with me at my favorite organ in a church in Reykjavik. We were able to meet and rehearse a couple of times during the week, and I have to say we made a great program of songs. And the concert was just pure magic. We had rehearsed just enough to know the songs but we also had to be on our toes since we don’t know each other that well. So it became this really joyful honest energetic meeting both inside and outside the music. The whole concert was recorded and I just release the video on Youtube. I’m really happy with how i turned out, both the sound and picture so do check it out!
Most of my trips to Iceland has been together with my friend and court photographer Palli Kristmundsson, and he accompanied me also on this trip. Under the links below you can see his beautiful pictures as well as some video from each concert.
And more adventures are coming up! In early September I’ll be going back, both to do some concerts and to record. Stay tuned and hope to see you soon!
And here’s the full concert video with Eythor Ingi
