Vintage theatre organs are quite rare in Sweden. To my knowledge, there is only one. It was installed at the Skandia cinema in Stockholm in 1926, and after a number of turns it has ended up in an old nuclear reactor hall the the Royal College of Technology. Yes, you read that right, an old reactor hall! Is there a more extravagant place to have an old cinema organ? I think not.
And on Oct 25th I will do my first concerts on this organ! Can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward. There’ll be two shows, one at 4pm and one at 7pm. The repertoire will span pretty much the last century, from show tunes from the 20’s to modern computer game music. And some things in between.
Definitely a new experience for me, and a unique opportunity to see me play in a completely new setting! After all, I’ve been playing almost only the Hammond for 30 years now, so why not mix it up a little?
