Andreas Hellkvist Iceland trip 2025
My name is Andreas Hellkvist, Hammond organ player from Sweden. Musically, I work broadly, both in terms of genre, settings and venues. I do a lot of solo concerts, as well as working in various bands and constellations. Generally I like smaller settings, as it gives more space and freedom to each musician. I also like to challenge both myself and general norms of what and how to play the Hammond. My latest project “Quadraphonic Leslie Experience” features a Hammond B3 and four leslie cabinets, connected through various technical solutions and innovations. When the notes bounce around between them it creates a sound that is hard to imagine without having experienced it first hand.
I have been to Iceland a few times before, both as a visitor and touring musician, and sometimes both. I have to say I have grown very fond of this Island!
In May of this year 2025 I will come to Iceland to do a few concerts, reconnect with friends and colleagues and just enjoy this fantastic island for the first time in 5 years!
I will be there with my best friend and photographer Palli Kristmundsson. He also lives in Sweden but grew up in Vallakot, close to Husavik. I arrive on Tuesday May 13th and leave on Tuesday May 20th. During this time I will try to both do concerts, reconnect with my old Icelandic contacts and hopefully make a lot of new ones! Basically, renew my Iceland connection.

History
My connection to Iceland is mainly through my friend, former colleague and photographer Palli Kristmundsson. He has become somewhat of a “court photographer” and has documented most of my musical life, and especially my Iceland trips.
My first visit to Iceland was for a tour in 2016 when I had released my first album “Finally”. It was made possible primarily thanks to Palli and Andri Gudmundson, another Icelandic friend of mine , living in Sweden at the time (but has now moved back to Iceland). Me and my trio was there for a week, and played venues both in the Reykjavik area and around Akureyri and Myvatn. I totally fell in love with the country, and its people and landscape and sceneries.
The next trip was in the fall of 2018. Me and Palli went there to establish contacts with various Icelandic artists and music people in general. That’s when I met Thorir Baldursson for the first time and he introduced me to the beautiful organ at Ohada church. There a video of that
After releasing my second album “Becoming” in 2019, me and Palli went for another trip. This time we made a little tour, mainly doing solo concerts. You can see the dates in the list below. One of the highlights was to play the organ at Ohada church. I did both a solo concert as well as playing at a church service. It was simpy amazing. What a magnificent Hammond organ!
Then in Aug-Sep of 2020, a long tour was planned. It was supposed to start with a couple of blues concerts in Reykjavik and Patrikfjördur, to playing at the Reykjavik jazz festival, doing solo concerts and a rock show with Eythor Ingi. But it all got cancelled due to covid.
