How I have been looking forward to this stream! This very day marks the 25th anniversary of my first “real” jazz organ gig. It took place in my hometown of Borlänge and the band that was playing was put together but and good friend and mentor of mine. We played some of my songs, for example “The Hellkvist Shuffle” and “Morgonkaffe”, and other songs that I’d been listening to and learning. Some classic organ jazz, of course, by Jack McDuff, Jimmy Smith and others, and also some Larry Goldings. The was in the mid 90s so I had been listening a lot to his first trio albums.
So before this stream, I dug deep in my archives and found old set lists, posters and cassette recordings. Before the stream, me and Tore reminisced a bit and went thorugh some of the old songs that you also can hear in the stream. Since it was the eve of second advent I had also baked some traditional Swedish saffron buns, “Lussekatter” as we called them.
Me and Tore and hardly met for many years, much less played. I think the last gig we had was in 2004. So it was so nice to have a reason to both meet and play again! And I certainly hope it won’t be as long until we play again.
