Trinity’s 5th album, offering a variety of jazz standards, original compositions and other songs, representative of their current repertoire. It spans a wide spectrum of styles, tempos and moods, ranging from fast energetic versions of songs like Caravan and Firm roots, to soft and dreamish takes on Some other time and This guy’s in love with you. After more than 18 years together, they have managed to keep the joy and curiosity alive, forming an ever more intimate interplay. Regardless of song, you can always hear the playfulness, spontaeity and dynamics that has become a trademark of theirs.
It is the second release on Feppe Records, and also the second album fully produced at the Hellkvist HQ.
A word from the HQ (liner notes by Andreas)
In the beginning of 2020, just before the pandemic struck, I had just gotten my own studio to be able to make and record music at any time. Since then it has become the place from which everything that I do eminates. The headquarters of my life, so to speak, hence the name Hellkvist HQ, or just HQ for short.
When my band mates in Trinity asked if we could record and produce our fifth album here at the HQ and release it on my label Feppe records I felt both honored, excited and little nervous. It would be my most serious undertaking so far, but I’m always up for a challenge. And I’ve been adament to get it right, and that’s probably one of the reasons it has taken a while to finish. It’s now almost two years since the recording.
It has been quite a journey finding the sound for this album, exploring various ways and methods of mixing and mastering. Most often an interesting experience but at times also incredibly frustrating, both for me and the trio. So we all have been waiting impatiently for this moment when it’s finally time for release. But as we say here in Sweden, ”better late than never”.
Two years ago we also took some photos meant for the cover, but they felt a little outdated now. On the backside of this inner sleeve you can see one of them. The pictures used for the actual cover are from the last gig of our summer tour this year.
Of course, I couldn’t have done it all on my own. My band mates Jojo Djeridi and Karl Olandersson has been providing valuable feedback all along during the process, both regarding musical aspects and others. Lennart Wåhlin helped me with the finishing touches of the cover design, and my court photographer Palli Kristmundsson supplied all pictures except the cover, as well as overall support.
The album comprises a mix of songs, representative of our current repertoire. They tend to span quite a wide spectrum of styles, tempos and moods. We all contribute in various ways by suggesting, arranging and composing songs, so the end result is the combination and synergy of our individual artistic ideas.
