Last fall I revived the Kjell Öhman tribute project for the 10th anniversary of his passing. We did a show at Katalin, Uppsala, we the aim of doing some more this year. And this was the first one, at E-street, where Jazzklubben Sundsvall organizes their concerts.
Though, there was a slight change of plans. Mikael, the piano player, couldn’t do the gig, so we had to look for a sub. In this group, it’s not only about the actual instruments, but I prefer also that everyone playing had a personal relationship to Kjell Öhman and his music. Therefore I asked Erik Söderlind to sub on guitar. Erik played with Kjell for many years, and also at the funeral. So, it was a perfect match to have him. The sound, of course, was a little different, but it was just interesting to have another instrument on stage.
Doing this show really reminds you of the greatness of Kjell, and you are humbled and moved by the music you’re playing. All in all, a really nice concert!
